Genres: Classical, Experimental / Avante Garde, Rock

Sound description: Cellos. Hip-hop beats. Turntables. Guitar. Drums. This band is wreaking havoc on our genre classification system. But they rock.

RIYL: Hearing "Miserlou" and "Don't Stop Believin'" played by cellos

City: Arlington, TX

Web site: http://www.the440alliance.com

Four cellists forsake their classical ways to form a group the likes of which have never been seen. The 440 Alliance combines classical training with the stylings of classic rock, hip hop, Nintendo, and other madness that will astound you. Oh yeah, there's also drums and turntables.

It all sounds like Mozart, Led Zeppelin and Dr. Dre collaborating at a summer backyard barbeque.

Laurie Anderson Laurie Anderson is indescribably delicious. She's hitting McFarlin tonight with her new show, Homeland, and you can bet it will contain intellectual stimulation and pure unadulterated weirdness in equal measure. An album will follow the Homeland tour in 2009. More info
