SUMMER 2008_Intensive Art Program for High Schoolers (grades 10 - 12)

TCU Art Academy is a summer art program designed for any high school student- from the student who wants to build a portfolio to the one who just simply enjoys the creative process. You too can experience art in a studio setting.

The Academy meets daily from noon to 4pm for 2 weeks. Academy students concentrate on their choice of major: painting, 2-D design, 3-D design or drawing. For a meaningful and in-depth studio experience, workshops last 2-3 hours daily. Students will get one-on-one writing assistance in preparation for the "artist's statements" that will accompany work in the final exhibit.

APPLYING Applying to the Summer Art Academy is by portfolio. This year we're requesting artwork in digital format.

Portfolio must include 3 works: 1 drawing, 1 color work, and 1 artwork of your choice.

Applicant can email files to academy.submission@yahoo.com OR send files on a CD-rom (along with you application and full payment) to TCU Extended Education (see address on p.2) before May 16. Emailing applicants also need to mail or fax TCU Extended Ed office with your form/payment.

ACCEPTANCE Don't let the "portfolio" be a discouragement from taking the program. The portfolio review is used by our studio instructors to gauge students ability and level, this in turn will help the student have a successful Academy experience. Acceptance to the Academy is based on desire and discipline as well as intellectual and technical curiosity; you need not be a skilled artist yet.

EXPECTATIONS Students accepted into the TCU Summer Art Academy are held to the highest standards, the intensity of the workshops demand students be in attendance each and every day. In keeping with serious study associated with advanced studios and college preparation, each student should come prepared to interact with others and with the workshop instructors. You will be challenged to learn new skills and new ways of approaching and understanding art.
