In May, school districts that pay into the state's Robin Hood funding program were under the impression that new legislation would radically reduce or nullify their payments.
Instead, payments have gotten smaller, but not by as much as the schools might have hoped.
Nevertheless, the good news is that Northwest ISD's payments have decreased from $35.8 million for 2005-06 to $34.7 million for 2006-07.
If for any reason you haven't heard of Robin Hood yet, the thought process behind it is that 'property-wealthy' districts should help educate students in 'property-poor districts' by reallocating funding. Obviously, the reference is to Robin Hood's famous campaign to take money from the rich and give it to the poor.
Other Tarrant County districts that pay into the system include Grapevine-Colleyville, Hurst-Euless-Bedford, and Carroll.

Redefining the Disfranchised: The Political Art of Nina Allender As we continue to celebrate the 88th Anniversary of Women's Right to Vote, there's a prime opportunity to view influential art from the era. Nina Evans Allender drew political cartoons for The Suffragist from 1914 into the 1920s, transforming stereotypical views of who a suffragist was. Over the years, Allender contributed more than 250 political cartoons to the movement, a number of which are on display at the Women's Museum at Fair Park. More info
