Howdy neighbor!

Our fearless leader has been in Seattle all week, and when the cat's away... well, let's just say, Pegasus News World Headquarters was empty on April Fool's Day (if you catch my drift). Just kidding M.O.! Here's hoping nobody pulled one over on you. And now, the news of our community...

Ways we're currently bribing you to spend more time with us

Let us know what you'd be willing to do for free tickets to Radiohead's sold-out Dallas concert in May. Meanwhile, entrepreneurs and business owners can quaff and nosh for free at Cork while learning how to market your business online from Mike Orren. Last week we awarded tickets to a concert at the Granada. Sign up for The Daily You to increase your chances of winning other cool UnContests. With new promotions added throughout the week, we hope you'll check back daily!

Dining

Best Bites predicts the arrival of a new place that specializes in sorbet. TG also tells of new honey-flavored products. Sullivan's has a new executive chef. Also, content partner Donna Chen reviewed La Duni.

Metro

A North Richland Hills woman's nipple piercings resulted in TSA reform and an impromptu award. Best Southwest Citizen reports Wilmer's mayoral race is registered sex offender-free. Grits for Breakfast reports on the firing of Dallas police officers. True to its name, Dallas Progress praises progress in Dallas' Turner Courts. Meanwhile, more than half a dozen towns and school boards have canceled their elections May 10.

Sports

Todd's Cupcheck is military strategy-heavy. FC Dallas started their season, and Erin is tracking the team's progress. Rangers have started their season too, but Uncle Barky says nobody's watching, even when they're winning. Dirk also came back for the Mavericks' biggest game of the season.

First to know. First in Line.

Flix

We have a veritable slew of movie stuff this week, as one might expect as a result of the AFI Dallas Film Festival currently up and running. We posted a photo gallery of the AFI opening night gala awards ceremony honoring Helen Hunt and Mickey Rooney. Our cameras also made it to red carpet events at Victory Park, the Magnolia Theater and NorthPark. We interviewed Tom McCarthy (director of The Visitor), Amin Matalqa (director of Captain Abu Raed), director Jason Wulfsohn (of Tracing Cowboys) and the two local guys who made the documentary abouut the decline of the American newspaper, Stop the Presses: Manny Mendoza and Mark Birnbaum. We also reviewed the films Gonzo: The Life and Work of Dr. Hunter S. Thompson and nabbed a plum interview with Hong Kong director Wong Kar Wai, whose new film, My Blueberry Nights, stars locally-educated singer/songwriter Norah Jones in her first acting role.

The Biz

Dallas strip clubs are top of the news. EDS just got a little richer this week. Dickies is (are?) expanding. New content partner North Texas Daily brings -- what else? -- news of UNT's terminated deal with the Radisson Hotel and Denton's housing slump. Best Southwest Citizen adds DeSoto is getting a new hotel.

Sound and Scene

Mark-Brian Sonna reviewed The Giver and a concert by Dianne Reeves, while Shawn spotlights Richard III director Ian Leson. Members of Public Enemy in town for AFI spent time in Victory Park. 2K7 Photography captured the Taste of Chaos tour stop in Grand Prairie. Gay List Daily also highlights concerts this weekend and stage musicals throughout the coming month.

Today

Laurie Anderson Laurie Anderson is indescribably delicious. She's hitting McFarlin tonight with her new show, Homeland, and you can bet it will contain intellectual stimulation and pure unadulterated weirdness in equal measure. An album will follow the Homeland tour in 2009. More info
