Several of the Rangers' big bats that had been dormant since the All-Star break woke up against the Sox, particularly Josh Hamilton, who smashed a three-run home run in the top of the third to provide the only scoring the Rangers would need. Hank Blalock, who has spent most of the season on the disabled list, added a two-run blast of his own in the top of the eighth to make it 5-1 Texas.

Rookie outfielder David Murphy also had a good day, going 2-for-4 with a run scored and a pair of doubles. Murphy now has 26 doubles, and is hitting .272. Fellow promising youngster Jerrod Saltalamacchia also collected two hits, including a double, and scored a run off of Hamilton's big blast in the third.

Rangers starter Scott Feldman continued to show promise, giving up just a single run off four hits over six innings. Feldman improved to 4-3 and lowered his ERA to a halfway decent 4.80.

Over the years, Allender contributed more than 250 political cartoons to the movement, a number of which are on display at the Women's Museum at Fair Park. More info
